Baggage-packing guidelines: Dos and don’ts

Next week, I’ll be off to Manila again for some design project, and yes I’m already starting to prepare some of the stuff I’ll be bringing along in my baggage. My typical carry-on or hand-carried luggage consists of my shoulder bag and laptop bag with wheels. I usually don’t include liquids and gels in my hand-carry bag to have a hassle-free airport security check.

Passengers who need to bring their favorite perfume, hair gel, prescription medicines or drinks have to comply with the rules on LAGs (liquids, aerosols and gels) in hand-carried baggage regarding container size and the amount of contents.

Anyway, here are some helpful tips from Philippine Airlines on packing and preparing your baggage:

DOs

Do pack liquids, toilet articles in ziplock or airtight plastic bags. Changes in cabin pressure may cause even well sealed items to leak.

DONTs

Don’t place your valuables, jewelry, cash, electronics or other fragile and important items in your checked baggage.

Don’t pack sharp objects such as knives, scissors, cutters in your carry-on baggage.

Don’t bring lighters in the airport or onboard the aircraft.

The above dos and don’ts are basic tips for travelers and may sound simple yet should always be considered. It’s also best to travel light and bring only those items that are necessary.

Hello Maree, I think it’s allowed as long as your shoulder bag is not noticeably big and heavy. I usually travel with Cebu Pacific with my laptop bag trolley and a shoulder bag. They are not consistent about weighing hand-carried baggage. Sometimes they weigh the passenger bringing his handcarry bags with him on the scale. Sometimes you can also check-in without showing them your carry-on baggage.
