Holiday gîtes in Northern France

2110 5

A French holiday home for rental is known as a gîte, one of the popular types of accommodations in France. Originally, gîtes are cottages and barns owned by farm owners and used to provide shelter for guests. Nowadays, gîtes vary from budget apartments with basic facilities to luxurious holiday villas equipped with modern amenities. The owner usually lives within close proximity to provide welcome and assistance to the needs of their guests and make them feel at home.

In Northern France, there are lots of holiday gîtes for rent for family and small group vacations. Along the coast of France, there are family friendly holiday gites in Normandy while you can find self catering villas in Calvados in Lower Normandy. These provide a comfortable place to stay before venturing out into the town or deeper into the countryside. Places to visit in Calvados include the Arromanches, Falaise, Monet’s garden, Mont St. Michel and more. At the heart of France, one can consider private chateaux to rent in Nievre, famous for its white wine and numerous vineyards in the villages.

Gîtes usually have spacious yards (great for barbecue and outdoor activities) with a nice view of nearby hills and orchards, and provide 2 or more bedrooms which can accommodate small groups (4-6 persons) and up to large groups of 15 persons. Most gîtes are fully furnished and kitchens are fully-equipped with dishwasher, refrigerator, hob, microwave and other cooking essentials. The countryside ambiance of this type of accommodation is just great for those who want to experience homey and laid back rural surroundings within short distance to tourist attractions.
