When geeks travel for techie stuff’s sake

In my previous post, I wrote about some of the usual reasons for travel. But how about going to another place for techie stuff’s sake? My sis’ geeky hubby traveled all the way from Prague to the UK driving his car with a friend just to get these items he purchased online – two Dell servers, minidisc car audio player, minidisc desk player and about 8 hard SCSI drives. LOL, these are yummy items for him! He had the purchased items shipped to his friend in the UK since the seller is also from UK, thus delivery was free. They had to bring a car since the servers were big and heavy.

While us girls are always keen on getting some discounts on clothing and accessories, geeks like my sis’ hubby and techie bro are always on the lookout for computer sale and great deals such as discount drives, RAMs and other computer accessories. I can just remember bro’s eyes gleaming over some of the cheap drives on display whenever we go to the Zeer IT Mall in Rangsit, Thailand. While computer geeks can spend hours wandering about the many shops in an IT mall, they are also fond of shopping at online IT stores such as discountechnology.com which offers IT products including desktop computers, servers, monitors, hard drives and networking equipment.

Anyway, according to sis’ hubby, the travel cost plus the time and effort spent on the whole trip was worth the savings he got from his purchase. And he’s very much happy about it despite some security check problems before boarding their car at the train in UK. Tsk, the things geeks do to get the best discounts on anything techie!
